Pastor and Other Christian Leaders: Loosen Up!

Submitted by John_Shore on Sat, 12/06/2008 - 03:59.

I hate criticizing people. Actually, I like criticizing people, but over the years have found that it tends to move whomever I'm criticizing to criticize me back, which is much less fun. The best solution I've found is to talk about people behind their backs. I think that's really a win-win for all.

But now I must speak out directly! I must! Not doing so will make my eyeballs hurt! And then I'll have to put iodine in them! And then my screaming will disturb the neighbors! So that's out.

A savior has arrived in America. Someone so powerful as to bring a promise of hope to a new generation of people. “Yes we can” has replaced “Why should I care?”, and people everywhere are singing the song.

I can’t help but think about the arrival of Barack Obama and see the masses of Americans laying down palm tree branches as he rides in on a donkey. In unison everyone around me is chanting “Obama” as I look on in great wonder.

October 22nd 2008 marked my 60th lap around the sun. A big number that calls for reflection, which I do best in the ocean. On my way down the dirt path to the water, I thought of the best things in life: the birth of my first and only child, my second marriage, my love affair with surfing that started in February of 1961 and my conversion to Christianity in 1968. While births and marriages often conjure up similar memories for most everyone, surfing and Christianity, when given joint custody, probably do not.

Jay Adams, Dennis Martinez and Christian Hosoi

Ever since childhood Jay Adams has been addicted to the pull of gravity. Being crossbred by the lowriders, beatniks and surfers in Venice California, Jay began surfing so long ago that he can’t recall the first time. Skateboarding quickly followed and he soon became one of the leaders of the prestigious Z-boys.
